Meadows Regional Medical Center Opens in Vidalia

Meadows Regional Medical Center completed its $75 million replacement hospital in January of 2011 in Vidalia, Ga. The facility was built by American Health Facilities Development, a subsidiary of Quorum Health Resources. The 194,000-sf hospital includes 64 private patient rooms, six surgical suites, and an emergency department with 24 treatment rooms.

City University of New York Builds Research Facilities

City University of New York has awarded Skanska USA a $92 million contract to construct two research buildings in Harlem, N.Y. A 473,000-sf facility will house labs, a 100-seat lecture hall, and a cafeteria. The second building will provide 247,000 sf of laboratory space for biology, chemistry, and physics. Construction began in January of 2011 with completion expected in summer of 2014.

Ford Renovates Louisville Assembly Plant

Ford Motor Company is initiating a $600 million renovation of its Louisville Assembly Plant. The project includes infrastructure upgrades and retooling to provide a flexible, high-volume facility. Production will begin in late 2011.

University of North Florida Breaks Ground on Addition to College of Education

The University of North Florida broke ground on a $5.6 million addition to the College of Education and Human Services Building in January of 2011. Located in Jacksonville, the sustainably designed 16,000-sf facility will house the Disability Resource Center, the Military and Veterans Resource Center, the On-Campus Transition Program, and the Institute for Values, Community, and Leadership. The project team includes Baker Barrios Architects of Orlando and construction manager PPI. Completion is expected in January of 2012.

Ariens Renovates R&D Office

Ariens Co. is initiating a $3.8 million renovation of its R&D office in Brillion, Wis. The project will include creation of new product development and testing labs, an employee learning center, and a geothermal heating system. The completed facility will help Ariens to support its Lean management philosophy. Completion is expected in July of 2011. The project was designed by Performa of De Pere, Wis., with Miron Construction as general contractor.
