University of Toronto Builds Centre for Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship
The University of Toronto is building the Centre for Engineering Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Toronto, Ontario. Designed by Montgomery Sisam Architects and Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios, the CAD$200 million facility will feature TEAL classrooms for technology-enhanced active learning, a two-story atrium offering abundant natural light, a 500-seat auditorium, and studios for design, fabrication, and prototyping.
University of Cincinnati Constructs Health Sciences Building
The University of Cincinnati began construction in March of 2017 on the $61 million Health Sciences Building. The collaborative four-story facility was designed by Perkins+Will to support interprofessional medical education programs for the College of Allied Health Sciences. The 117,000-sf building will provide laboratories, classrooms, and offices. Completion is expected by early 2019.
Erie Community College Builds STEM Facility
Erie Community College is constructing a $30 million academic building to accommodate programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Designed by Kideney Architects and built by Turner Construction, the two-story facility is located on the North Campus in Williamsville, N.Y. The 57,000-sf building will provide classrooms, labs, prep rooms, study lounges, faculty offices, a café, and a tutoring hub. Construction began in August of 2016 and occupancy is expected in January of 2018.
Georgia Southern University Breaks Ground on Interdisciplinary Academic Building
Georgia Southern University broke ground in February of 2017 on the $33.6 million Interdisciplinary Academic Building in Statesboro. Designed by HOK, the 110,000-sf facility will provide classrooms to support a progressive pedagogy of interactive, student-centered learning.
Oerlikon Breaks Ground on Research and Manufacturing Facility
Oerlikon Metco broke ground in March of 2017 on an 80,000-sf research and manufacturing facility in Plymouth Township, Mich. Representing an investment of $50 million, the project will support the production of alloy powders for 3-D printing and additive manufacturing processes. The facility was designed by Ghafari Associates and is being built by Kirco Manix Construction. Completion is expected in spring of 2018.
