Bio-Tech Imaging To Add New Facilities

Frederick, Md.-based Bio-Tech Imaging, a developer and manufacturer of HIV tests, recently opened a 30,000-sf manufacturing plant in Shreveport, La. As Bio-Tech expands its manufacturing scope to include diagnostic tests for cancer and hepatitis C, sites for two new production facilities will be sought in the greater Washington area.

National Cathedral School Builds Underground Athletic Center

The National Cathedral School began construction of a 99,000-sf underground athletic center in November 2000. The $17.5 million facility will be located underneath a soccer field and is expected to open in February of 2002. Working with the restriction that no more than 14 percent of the 57-acre National Cathedral site may be developed, the center will be accessed via a small stone pavilion containing a three-story atrium and a  40-foot freestanding climbing wall.

AT&T Internet Data Center in Atlanta

Telecom giant AT&T Corp. will locate a 250,000-sf Internet data center at Riverside Business Park in Douglas County. Investing up to $500 per square foot for facility equipment and improvements, AT&T selected the site for its ample power supply, adequate parking and single-story facility space.

New Nextec Plant in Singapore

Nextec Applications, a "smart-textile" manufacturer, has raised $10 million to build their first international plant in Singapore. The new facility should reach completion by the end of the year 2001, with plans to build additional plants in Europe and Japan. Nextec's  breathable, water-repellent, windproof fabrics remain flexible and soft even in cold weather, and are used in the apparel, medical, and industrial protective clothing industries.

Olin College of Engineering To Utilize Modular Housing

The Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering will be housing incoming students this fall in modular classroom and dormitory buildings. Three of the four building intended to accommodate these students, totaling nearly 300,000 sf, are in the first phase of construction and are slated for completion in early 2002. The remaining building will be ready for occupancy in April 2002, with four additional buildings to be completed as needed to reach Olin's anticipated full enrollment of 600-650 students.
