Southwestern College Develops Education Village

Southwestern College is building a $22-million project referred to as Education Village on  3.3 acres purchased from the Community Development Commission. The National City project is part of a collaboration of Southwestern and San Diego State University (SDSU) to provide lower level courses for students transferring from Southwestern to SDSU. The development will consist of two buildings totalling 72,000 sf. The 25,000-sf building will house the San Diego County Office of Education.

Biogen Dedicates New RTP Facilities

Biogen formally dedicated a 250,000-sf large-scale manufacturing facility in Research Triangle Park in early May. With 120,000 liters of bioreactor capacity, the $173-million facility will give Biogen one of the world's largest biologic manufacturing capacities and will allow the flexibility to produce multiple products in Biogen's pipeline. The biotech giant also dedicated a 150,000-sf lab and office building in Research Triangle Park.

EPA Relocation Prompts Renovation

The Environmental Protection Agency's new 1.2 million-sf campus will be ready for occupancy in summer 2002. The largest facility ever built for the EPA, the campus can house 2,200 employees and 10,000 research animals, and will include 400 individual labs, a cafeteria, a conference center and a child-care center.  The National Computer Center, which contains the agency's nationwide data, has already moved to the new headquarters.

UTSA Develops Student Housing

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is planning a new student housing project. Phase one, a $16-million, 500-bed complex, will be built in summer of 2002. Phase two consists of a $25-million, 750-room project. Phase three includes an additional 500 rooms. UTSA, San Antonio’s only major public university, hopes to change its status as primarily a commuter school with the new dormitory facilities. The University is currently engaged in an expansion totalling over $175 million in new construction, half of which is devoted to a new science building.

Indianapolis Airport Authority Plans New Terminal

The Indianapolis Airport Authority has selected Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum (HOK) as Master Designer for a new $939-million terminal at Indianapolis International Airport. The new terminal will be built in the midfield of the airport between the two main runways. The project is scheduled for completion in July 2007. HOK will provide a comprehensive design solution for the entire development, with a primary focus on developing a unique and compelling gateway experience for the Indianapolis air traveler. The project represents the first U.S.
