Nortel Opens Santa Clara Campus
Brampton, Ontario-based Nortel Networks opened its new 14-acre office and lab campus in Santa Clara on May 29, 2002. Ground was broken on the two-story, 760,000-sf facility in September 2000 with buildings reaching completion in March and April 2002. Consolidating 15 separate Bay Area locations, the campus also includes a parking garage.
Computer Sciences Corp. Develops New Carrollton Facility
Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC) will occupy a new build-to-suit facility in Prince George's County, financed for $25-million by commercial real estate investment firm John B. Levy & Co. Located in New Carrollton across from the IRS headquarters, the Metroview/CSC building is currently under construction and will house CSC's 325,000-sf office. The facility is being developed by Berman Enterprises. CSC was recently awarded a long-term computer system modernization contract by the IRS.
Cell Genesys Builds Production Facility
Cell Genesys is building a $60-million clinical and commercial launch production facility in Hayward. Designed by Dowler-Gruman Architects, the 69,000-sf facility will be capable of handling multiple 500-liter bioreactor lines. Built by DPR Construction of Redwood City, the facility began construction in March of 2001 and is expected to reach completion in December of 2002.
Saint Mary's College Breaks Ground on Performing Arts Center
Ground was broken on Saint Mary's College's new Syufy Performing Arts Center in May. The 7,000-sf building will house programs in dance and music in addition to providing space for individual and group instrument practice. A scene design and storage facility is included in the project. The building, slated for completion in 2003, is named after regent and trustee Raymond J. Syufy.
Temple University To Build Ambulatory Healthcare Center in Philadelphia
Temple University is planning to build a new ambulatory healthcare center in Philadelphia next to its main hospital. The building, designed with the flexibility to potentially grow to 10 floors, will initially consist of two stories and a basement. Current plans include a sub-basement radiation therapy facility with the first floor housing patient registration and other radiation therapy. Traditional GI procedures, short procedure cases and some ambulatory surgery functions will be located on the second floor.
