Elan Expands South San Francisco Research Facilities
Ireland-based biotech firm Elan is investing $20.2-million in the expansion and redevelopment of its four-building neurology research campus in South San Francisco. The project includes construction of a $13-million lab complex in a newly leased 66,000-sf facility. Elan will also complete the renovation of an existing 44,000-sf lab within the next three months. The expansion will concentrate Elan’s 180 Bay Area researchers in a single campus, as well as provide space for 70 additional researchers.
Law School Admissions Council To Build Newton Headquarters
The Law School Admissions Council (LSAT) will break ground on its new 85,000-sf headquarters in late summer of 2002. Located on seven company-owned acres in Newton, Penn., adjacent to its current 48,000-sf operations, the facility will feature 54 underground parking spaces. The majority of a proposed $20-million bond will fund the headquarters, which will be designed by Edison, N.J.-based architectural firm Rothe Johnson Fantacone. Construction will be completed within a year.
LexisNexis Renovates Boston Headquarters
LexisNexis Group, the legal and information division of Reed Elsevier PLC, has completed renovation of its 38,000-sf Boston headquarters. Construction management and general contracting for the renovation was provided by Spaulding & Slye Construction, a division of Boston-based real estate firm Spaulding & Slye Colliers. Architectural firm Gensler of San Francisco designed the project.
Sybase Opens On-Site Childcare Facility
Enterprise software firm Sybase Inc. opened its new 4,000-sf SyberKids Center in March. Managed by the Children’s Creative Learning Center, the on-site child-care facility in Sybase’s new Dublin headquarters has kitchen and bathroom facilities and separate infant, toddler, and preschool areas. Hot meals are provided daily. The center can accommodate 52 children.
South Fulton Medical Center Renovation Under Way
Tenet Healthcare Corp. has acquired East Point’s South Fulton Medical Center and plans to spend $30-million on capital improvement projects and staffing for the 369-bed hospital. Renovation will occur on every floor, including a new $5- to $10-million emergency department to be built in the next year. Development of a new cardiovascular center is under way, as well as renovation of the women’s services department. $2 million will be spent on heating and ventilation system restoration.
