DaimlerChrysler Manufacturing Facility Operational
DaimlerChrysler's new 543,000-sf state-of-the-art manufacturing facility began production in July 2002. The engine plant is located on a brownfield construction site adjacent to the existing Kenosha Engine Plant in Kenosha, Wisc. The new plant is attached to the existing plant via a connector link that centralizes the shipping docks of both facilities and serves as a common utility route between both facilities and the new compressor building.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Builds Center for Biotechnology & Interdisciplinary Studies
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has selected McCarthy to construct its new $70-million Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies in Troy, N.Y. Upon completion in 2004, the 218,000-sf building will house 60 faculty and more than 300 researchers and graduate students dedicated to researching the application of engineering and the physical and information sciences to the life sciences. Focus areas will include functional tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, integrated systems biology, bioinformatics, biocatalysis and metabolic engineering.
Wyeth Upgrades St. Louis Facilities
Wyeth has worked with McCarthy to upgrade its St. Louis facilities, purchased in 1998, for the production of the hemoophilia drug ReFacto®. McCarthy has completed more than 500 projects for a total of almost $30 million to ready the cGMP manufacturing facilities, labs, warehouse and offices for Wyeth's manufacturing needs. Currently, the St. Louis facility is the only one in the United States producing ReFacto®. Flad & Associates of Madison, Wisc., has provided architectural services.
Corky McMillin Breaks Ground on Liberty Station
National City, Calif.-based Corky McMillin Cos. broke ground on the first two buildings in the Liberty Station development in October 2002. Sited at the former Naval Training Center in San Diego, the $62-million project will eventually accommodate 380,000 sf in seven office buildings. The first two facilities are slated to open in mid-2003. The project team consists of architect KMA Architecture and Engineering of San Diego and Bycor General Contractors of San Diego.
Carnot Emission Services Occupies KellyUSA Facility
Carnot Emission Services, a provider of precision emissions testing for worldwide engine manufacturers, occupied 10,500 sf of lab space in San Antonio's KellyUSA Building 333 in October 2002. The company has access to an additional 5,000 sf for use as a machine shop. Carnot plans to expand to encompass the entire 29,500-sf facility in the future.
