Rockdale Hospital Expands Emergency Department
Rockdale Hospital in Conyers, Ga., began construction in late September 2002 on a $9.7-million expansion and renovation of its emergency department. More than doubling the hospital's emergency facilities, the project includes the addition of 18,000 sf, two more nurse's stations, additional exam rooms, and a 14-bed observation unit. Construction is slated for completion in January 2004.
Georgetown University Develops Southwest Quadrangle
Georgetown University is developing the $168-million, three-building Southwest Quadrangle complex which began construction in September 2000. Slated for completion in spring of 2003, the project features a 1,200-seat dining hall, a 780-bed dormitory, an 815-car underground parking garage, and a chapel. General contractor for the project is Clark Construction.
Chiron Expands in Emeryville
Chiron Corp. has contracted DPR Construction to perform a $200,000 interior demolition and seismic upgrade project at the former Emeryville headquarters of Rainin Instrument Corp., recently leased by Chiron. Chiron plans to occupy 71,120 sf, which comprises most of the building. Chiron's new expansion project is sited across the street from the company's 24-acre corporate campus.
Trinity College Develops Sports Center for Women and Girls
Trinity College in Washington, D.C. is building the $20-million Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports. Developed by Forrester Construction, the 58,000-sf sports complex consists of a fitness center, NCAA six-lane regulation swimming pool, six tennis courts, an indoor track, and a basketball arena seating 1,600 for games and 2,500 for nonsporting events. Soccer, field hockey and lacrosse fields will be located next to the center. Construction on the center began in November 2000 and is slated for completion in November 2002.
DeWitt Army Hospital Plans Replacement Hospital
DeWitt Army Hospital is planning to replace its Fort Belvoir facility with a $110-million, 430,000-sf state-of-the-art hospital. Serving the 151,000 eligible uniformed services health care beneficiaries in Northern Virginia, the replacement hospital will be accompanied by redevelopment of the Regional Community Support Center as part of the Army's master plan for Fort Belvoir.
