Biosite Plans Mira Mesa Headquarters

San Diego-based Biosite is planning to construct a four-building, 350,000-sf corporate headquarters on 17.7 acres recently purchased in Mira Mesa, Calif. Biosite, a maker of rapid diagnostic products, plans to purchase an additional 8.4 acres by year-end 2003. The land, which can accommodate up to 800,000 sf, is in the 130.9 acre Fenton Technology Park. Biosite will relocate in the fourth quarter of 2004 from its nine Sorento Valley buildings where it occupies 190,000 sf. The company plans to expand its employee base from its current 700 up to 1,000 with occupancy of the new headquarters.

Internet software maker Neoteris is relocating its headquarters from Mountain View to Sunnyvale, Calif. The new 44,702-sf facility triples Neoteris’ office space and expands available lab space for research and product development.

E-Loan Consolidates in Pleasanton

Online lender E-Loan will consolidate its 750-employee work force in 118,000-sf of the Pleasanton Corporate Commons in Pleasanton, Calif. E-Loan has an option to lease an additional 90,000-sf in the building where it will occupy four floors. The facility was one of three built for Charles Schwab Corp.

VaxGen Opens South San Francisco Facility

Brisbane, Calif.-based VaxGen has opened an $11-million facility in South San Francisco that will manufacture the company’s anthrax vaccine, AIDS vaccine, and products ranging from smallpox vaccine to monoclonal antibodies. The 17,000-sf facility is adjacent to the company’s research and development operations, and features stainless steel bioprocessors and purifiers. The facility can be easily reconfigured as manufacturing requirements change as much of the equipment is on wheels.

Zone Labs Expands in San Francisco

Zone Labs has more than doubled its space in San Francisco with a move to 70,000 sf at 475 Brannan Street. Zone will consolidate its San Francisco operations at the new location while continuing to occupy its Sunnyvale office. The 225,000-sf 475 Brannan facility contains the city’s only private biotech space and houses two 15,000-sf wet labs. The building previously housed the headquarters of Signature Bioscience.
