New Alabama State Criminal Justice Facility Completed

The new $28-million State Criminal Justice Facility in Montgomery, Ala., has been completed by Birmingham-based Doster Construction. Designed by PH&J Architects of Montgomery , the building will house the Alabama Department of Corrections, Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Alabama Department of Pardons and Paroles, the Highway Patrol, and a central energy plant. The facility was constructed at the former site of the 400,000-sf St. Margaret’s Hospital.

University of Hartford Breaks Ground on ISET Complex

The University of Hartford celebrated the groundbreaking of the $32-million Integrated Science, Engineering and Technology (ISET) Complex in West Hartford, Conn.,  on June 16th, 2004 . The complex is comprised of the new 37,000-gsf ISET Building , the renovated 105,000-gsf Dana Hall, United Technologies Hall, and East Hall. These buildings will house the Engineering and Technology schools, the Integrated Technology program, and the Computer Science, Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Health Professions, and Psychology departments.

Toyota and Denso Plan Compressor Manufacturing Plant

Toyota Industries and Denso Corp. are jointly establishing TD Automotive Compressor Georgia LLC with a $100-million factory in Jefferson , Ga. Construction will begin on the 344,000-sf facility in August 2004 with production slated to begin in December 2005. By 2010, the plant will produce 2 million energy efficient variable displacement type compressors per year.

St. Joseph Medical Center Expands in Maryland

St. Josesph Medical Center will construct a new 60,000-sf facility in Towson, Md. The building, which will be the fourth on St. Joseph's campus, will house a cancer center and physician offices. Project contractor DASCO Cos. will initiate construction in December 2004; completion is slated for fall 2005. Designed by Cochran, Stephenson & Donkervoet of Baltimore, the facility will be linked by a covered walkway to an adjacent parking garage.

Texas Tech University Develops Clinical & Research Facilities

Texas Tech University is developing two new facilities, the Clinical Tower & Research Center (CT&RC) and the International Pain Institute (IPI) at the Health Sciences Center Campus in Lubbock , Texas . The new CT&RC will consolidate much of the clinical care currently in two other buildings into one patient-friendly building. Valued at $33,000,000, the CT&RC is composed of 142,000-sf of new construction and 23,000-sf of renovated space.
