College of the Holy Cross Builds Integrated Science Complex
The College of the Holy Cross is building a $60 million integrated science complex in Worcester, Mass. The four-story, 44,000-sf building will connect to the existing science and social science facilities and will house lecture, laboratory, and chemistry research space. Ground was broken on the project in April of 2007 with completion expected by January of 2009.
Everett Community College Opens Arts and Sciences Facility
Everett Community College celebrated the grand opening of Whitehorse Hall, an 88,000-sf arts and sciences facility, in January of 2007. The $27-million building was designed by LMN Architects and built by Mortensen Construction. The three-story facility houses art classrooms and studios on the perimeter and science labs for chemistry, geological sciences, physics, and engineering in the interior.
Cooper University Hospital Constructs Inpatient Pavillion
Cooper University Hospital is constructing a $218-million inpatient pavilion in Camden, N.J. The technology-rich ten-story structure was designed by EwingCole to enhance patient care and limit complications such as infections. The facility features private rooms, dispersed nursing stations, abundant natural light, hand washing sinks outside every patient room, and noise-reducing ceilings. Completion is slated for fall of 2008.
Edmonton Clinic Plans Integrated Research and Healthcare Facility
The Edmonton Clinic, a partnership of the University of Edmonton and Alberta's Capital Health, will begin construction in 2007 on a $589-million, 1.6 million-sf facility in Edmonton. Integrating healthcare, research, and learning, the project will include over 61 groups from both the private and public sector including pharmaceutical science and rehabilitation medicine.
University of Saskatchewan Develops Vaccine Institute
The University of Saskatchewan has begun construction on the $110 million International Vaccine Center (InterVac) in Saskatoon. Designed by Smith Carter of Winnipeg, the 165,000-sf facility will include large animal testing facilities and BSL-3 containment laboratories for infectious disease and vaccine research.
