Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Constructs Patient Tower
Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin is constructing a 425,000-sf patient tower in Wauwatosa. The 12-story facility will increase bed count from 236 to 294, with the ability to add an additional 72 beds in the future. Completion is slated for 2009. Children’s is also partnering with the Medical College of Wisconsin to construct a 298,000-sf, $140 million translational research facility.
Scripps Receives $20 Million CTSA Grant
The National Institutes of Health awarded Scripps Translational Science Institute (STSI) a $20 million Clinical and Translational Science Award in June of 2008. STSI is a collaboration between The Scripps Research Institute and Scripps Health in partnership with other San Diego institutions. The award will support biomedical research in genomics, stem cells, and applications of wireless technology.
South Shore Hospital Builds Cancer Treatment Center
South Shore Hospital is building a $66 million cancer treatment center in South Weymouth, Mass. Site work began on the 85,000-sf facility in January of 2008 with construction commencing in July of 2008. Completion is slated for late 2009. The cancer treatment center will house adult and pediatric outpatient care with radiation oncology, linear accelerators, medical oncology, chemotherapy infusion, and an MRI. The center is affiliated with Dana Farber Cancer Treatment Center and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
University of Missouri Builds Orthopaedic Facility
The University of Missouri broke ground on the $52.5 million Orthopaedic Institute in Columbia, Mo., on June 5, 2008. Housing outpatient and inpatient care, the 113,512-sf project will house 41 clinic rooms, five operating rooms, two outpatient procedure rooms, radiology, rehabilitation, prosthetic/orthotic services, and a pharmacy. The center will consolidate the university’s orthopaedic treatment operations in a single location and is expected to open in early 2010.
Texoma Medical Center Breaks Ground in Denison
Texoma Medical Center celebrated the groundbreaking of its $137 million replacement hospital in Denison, Texas, in early June of 2008. Designed by HKS of Dallas and built by Brasfield and Gorrie, the eight-story, 370,000-gsf facility houses 252 beds. The facility includes a 32-bed intensive care unit, a 26-bed emergency room, and a 12-room operating suite. Occupancy is slated for spring of 2010.
