UC Santa Barbara Creates Stem Cell Research Laboratory
The University of California, Santa Barbara is renovating 10,337-sf in its Biological Sciences 2 Facility to house the Center for Stem Cell Biology and Engineering. The $6.3 million project is funded by $3.2 million from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine. The collaborative stem cell research facility will include a core laboratory with a high throughput sequencing apparatus, offices, conference rooms, and support.
St. Joseph Hospital Expands in Eureka
St. Joseph Hospital has selected Skanska USA Building as the construction manager for an $118 million expansion in Eureka, Calif. Designed by architect Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz, the project will include a 100,000-sf, three-story addition, as well as renovation of 12,000-sf in the existing hospital. The expansion is slated for completion in late 2010, upon which the renovation will commence and reach completion in late 2011.
Jones Lang LaSalle Merges with Staubach Co.
Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) will merge with The Staubach Company in the third quarter of 2008. The agreement will enhance JLL’s global service platform with Staubach’s tenant representation expertise. JLL will acquire The Staubach Co. for a total cost of $614 million and the combined operation will operate under the Jones Lang LaSalle name.
University of Alabama Plans Capstone College of Nursing
The University of Alabama is planning to construct the 63,000-sf Capstone College of Nursing in Tuscaloosa. The $20 million, three-story facility will create a new gateway to the campus. The project manager is Hoar Construction.
Arizona State University Completes Cronkite School of Journalism
Arizona State University’s 223,000-sf Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in downtown Phoenix is slated for completion in August of 2008. Designed by HDR and Steven Ehrlich, the six-story building has a 35,000-sf footprint and features a sustainable, energy efficient design. Project manager Sundt Construction broke ground on the $71 million facility in February of 2007.
