University of Missouri Opens Life Science Incubator

The University of Missouri officially opened the $9 million Life Science Business Incubator in Columbia in early May of 2009. The 33,000-sf project will provide laboratory space for up to 14 companies engaged in biomedical, energy, and technology research and development.

Florida A&M University Opens Animal Healthcare Complex

Florida A&M University opened the $1.2 million Animal Healthcare Complex in Quincy on May 5, 2009. Located at the FAMU Research and Development Center, the teaching and research facility features an animal medicine clinic, a wet lab, a surgical suite with videoconferencing, and a computer lab. The center houses advanced veterinary diagnostic technologies and was designed by Johnson and Peterson of Tallahassee. The complex houses ruminant, cattle, swine, and equine species. Construction began on the facility in May of 2008.

SEHA Plans Abu Dhabi Hospitals

SEHA, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, is planning to construct two world-class hospitals in Mafraq and Al Ain in Abu Dhabi. Replacing existing hospitals, the sustainably-designed facilities are expected to open in 2013. Designed by Burt Hill with Allen and Shariff as project manager, the 245,000-sm Mafraq hospital will provide 690 beds.

Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility Reaches Completion

Construction on Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) was completed in spring of 2009. Located in the Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, the 1,200 million yuan project was built in 52 months. Now fully operational, the 200,000-sm synchrotron radiation light source houses three accelerators.

Novus Headquarters Attains LEED Platinum

Novus International’s $20 million global headquarters in St. Charles, Mo., attained LEED Gold sustainable design certification in late April of 2009. The 90,000-sf facility began construction in August of 2007 and was completed in January of 2009. Comprised of 48,000-sf of new construction and 42,000-sf of renovation, the project consolidates the Global Headquarters and International Research Center into a single facility housing 10 labs, offices, conference and meeting rooms, and a training center.
