Moderna completed construction on a £150 million complex in the United Kingdom for the discovery and production of mRNA vaccines and therapeutics for COVID-19 and emerging respiratory health threats. Located on the Harwell Campus in Oxfordshire, the Moderna Innovation and Technology Centre (MITC) comprises two 145,000-sf buildings for research, development, and manufacturing. Housing labs for bioanalytical and molecular assays, as well as office spaces, the structure is part of Moderna’s ten-year strategic partnership with the UK government and has the capacity to produce up to 250 million vaccines per year. A drug substance manufacturing unit with next-generation automation technologies is accompanied by an early-stage R&D hub to support clinical trials.

Glencar Construction broke ground on the development in April of 2023 and Sisk began interior fit-out in January of 2024. Integrated Project Services acted as the construction manager and engineer. Merit utilized modular prefabrication strategies to create a clinical biomarker lab offsite, meeting a demanding two-year project timeline.
