The Medical University of South Carolina is constructing a $175 million facility for the College of Medicine in Charleston. Designed by SLAM in collaboration with Liollio Architecture, the 186,000-sf building will accelerate progress and innovation in medicine, education, and research. The structure will offer active learning environments including a terraced classroom and a theater, as well as offices for the dean and other faculty and staff. Study spaces will be complemented by meeting, event, and wellness venues. The adjacent Faculty Alumni Commons will feature a large interior courtyard and a café.
Creating a unified home for the College of Medicine in the heart of campus, the development will be furnished with large windows to supply an abundance of natural light. This transformative project will increase capacity for incoming classes of future physicians, enabling MUSC to address a predicted shortage of providers in South Carolina.
Following groundbreaking in December of 2024, occupancy is expected in summer 2027.
