Imperial College London is planning to construct the pioneering Fleming Centre to accelerate groundbreaking research into antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Envisioned as a global beacon for healthcare change, the highly flexible building will bring leading investigators, clinicians, and behavioral experts together with pharmaceutical partners and domestic and international policymakers. Uniquely positioned to tackle the pressing challenge of AMR, the interdisciplinary facility will be part of the Fleming Initiative which advances novel solutions through a network of centers located around the world.

Designed by Stanton Williams, the project will adapt and reuse historic industrial warehouses with canal frontage. The collaborative development will include an open ground floor to enhance public engagement, as well as a discovery center to showcase innovative science and research. The sustainable structure will incorporate low-carbon materials, renewable energy systems, a water-source heat pump, and photovoltaic arrays.

Part of Imperial’s planned WestTech Corridor and the Paddington Life Sciences district, the building will rise on the St. Mary’s Hospital campus, which will undergo redevelopment. Ove Arup & Partners and Ramboll are lending their engineering expertise to the project, and Montagu Evans and CPC Project Services are acting as consultants. Occupancy is anticipated in 2028.
