HITT Contracting broke ground in January of 2025 on the company's new headquarters in Falls Church, Va. Designed by Gensler, the 270,000-sf facility is envisioned as a nationally recognized innovation hub for the advancement of building practices that will shape the future of the industry. The project involves the transformation of an existing office structure, previously a satellite campus operated by Virginia Tech, into a collaborative educational center for the built environment. Occupying a 40,000-sf research lab on the ground floor, Virginia Tech’s Coalition for Smart Construction will leverage HITT’s expertise to catalyze the discovery of new solutions for sustainability, construction materials, and the training of skilled workers.

Accommodating 900 employees, the six-story building will offer a full-service conference venue and café on the ground floor, with an interconnecting stair leading to meeting spaces, wellness amenities, and access to the roof deck on the second story. Four additional office levels will provide environments that celebrate neurodiversity by supporting flexible work styles to increase productivity. This living laboratory will enable HITT's dedicated R&D team to carry out more than 20 research initiatives in fields spanning advanced materials, robotics, 3D printing, and technology-enabled workflows.

Aiming for LEED Platinum certification, HITT's sustainable headquarters is set to meet both net-zero-energy and net-zero-carbon criteria. Wind turbines and a 100,000-sf photovoltaic canopy will supply all the power for the facility, which will utilize sophisticated Power over Ethernet (PoE) technologies for lighting, electricity, and data. A HyperWall building envelope system developed in partnership with Building Composites will deliver a lighter, stronger, more efficient solution for insulation. Rushmark Properties is acting as developer and HITT Contracting is managing construction, with completion anticipated in early 2027.
