State of Missouri Builds Multi-Agency Laboratory Campus

Published 8/14/2024

The State of Missouri broke ground in June of 2024 on a $151 million project that will collocate five agencies in one integrated location. Designed by Multistudio, the 208,000-sf facility will provide laboratories and support spaces for the departments of agriculture, natural resources, conservation, and health and senior services, as well as the Missouri State Highway Patrol. This centralized hub will enhance operational efficiencies by creating an ecosystem of resources that will optimize the delivery of analytical services.

Offering wet and dry diagnostic labs, the research center will include BSL-2 suites and specialized venues for working with forensic biology, chemistry, molecular biology, bacteriology, and the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). The adaptable development will leverage flexible infrastructure to support diverse programs while preserving containment in a highly collaborative environment. A parking area and a walkway to the existing State Public Health Laboratory will also be created.

McCownGordon is the construction manager at risk for the project, which was made possible by funding from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. Completion is expected in October of 2026.
