USDA's New Research Center Will Advance Innovation in Agriculture

Published 12/10/2024

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) broke ground on the Agricultural Research and Technology Center in October of 2024. Consolidating labs currently located at the University of California, Davis, the $76 million facility will enable the USDA's Agricultural Research Service (ARS) to continue its long-standing research collaboration with the institution. Specialized labs and greenhouses will provide crucial insights for the development of new strategies for climate change mitigation, pest control, water management, soil health, and food security.

The two-story, 59,000-sf building will house four ARS units:

  • Crops Pathology and Genetics Invasive Species and Pollinator Health
  • National Clonal Germplasm Repository
  • Tree Fruit and Nut Crops and Grapes
  • Sustainable Agricultural Water Systems

Burns & McDonnell is providing design services and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is acting as project manager. Occupancy is anticipated in November of 2026.
