The University of Kansas is constructing the Gateway District, a vibrant destination for sports performance and training at the heart of the Lawrence campus. Designed by HNTB and Multistudio, the $448 million project includes the transformation of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium to provide a new seating bowl layout with improved sightlines. Improved concourse circulation will be accompanied by more space for concessions, accessible seating, and restrooms. Approximately 2,300 club seats will be available in three different venues, with unique social zones supplying a variety of settings for fans to mingle and connect. Occupancy is anticipated by August of 2025.
The adjacent Anderson Family Football Complex is also being expanded and renovated. The first phase of the development, comprising a new locker room and weight room, is now complete. The second phase will create an inspiring entry lobby, a spacious auditorium, team meeting rooms, and a sports medicine clinic with therapy and recovery areas to help KU student-athletes achieve their best.
With integrated links between indoor and outdoor environments, the 12-acre Gateway District will also include multipurpose facilities that will be accessible to both the university and the greater community year-round. With a mix of retail amenities, conference spaces, and entertainment offerings, this visionary mixed-use district is expected to drive cultural and economic growth in the region for many years to come.
The renovation of David Booth Memorial Kansas Stadium is being performed by Turner Construction, with Nations Group acting as owner's representative. Legends is engaged in reimagining the fan experience and optimizing revenue generation.
