California State University Northridge (CSUN) broke ground in April of 2023 on the $50 million Autodesk Technology Engagement Center in Lost Angeles. Accommodating programs for the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the two-story, 34,000-sf facility will feature flexible laboratories for research, design, digital capture, prototyping, and fabrication, as well as a maker space that will be accessible to the entire campus community and beyond. Architectural firm AC Martin’s vision for the project integrates equity as a core principle, enhancing the activities of CSUN’s Global Hispanic Serving Institution Equity Innovation Hub, which will also be housed in the building. Research Facilities Design (RFD) is the laboratory design consultant for the transformative development, which will catalyze STEAM initiatives in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. The welcoming and inclusive structure will include outdoor gathering spaces, a project showcase area, and a hub for peer-led student support services.
Autodesk contributed $7 million towards the construction of the public-private facility, which is supported by $1 million in federal funding and a $25 million state allocation. Apple is providing significant support to the HSI Equity Innovation Hub as part of its Racial Equity and Justice Initiative. Occupancy is expected in fall of 2024.
