The University of South Florida opened the $56 million Judy Genshaft Honors College in May of 2023 in Tampa. Designed by Morphosis with FleischmanGarciaMaslowski as executive architect, the 85,000-sf facility features interwoven environments for learning, study, and interdisciplinary exchange. A soaring central atrium opens onto adjoining flexible spaces that can be connected to accommodate large events. On the upper floors, the collaborative core is encircled by 39 learning lofts where small groups of students can engage in shared discovery. Offering a variety of settings for formal and information interaction, the five-story development also includes classrooms, offices, a teaching kitchen, a 3D printing suite, a multimedia recording room, an art and design studio, and a venue for musical rehearsal and performance.
The project team included The Beck Group as construction manager, structural engineer Walter P Moore, civil engineer Campo Engineering, electrical and acoustical engineer VoltAir, mechanical and plumbing engineer TLC Engineering, code and atrium consultant Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, and sustainability advisor REAL Building Consultants. Ground was broken in December of 2020 on the Genshaft Honors College, which is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification.
