Virginia Tech opened the $79 million Data and Decision Sciences Building in October of 2023 in Blacksburg. Designed by Moseley Architects, the 120,000-gsf facility features technology-rich learning environments for programs in computer science, engineering, statistics, and other data-related fields. Fostering interaction between multiple colleges and departments, the transdisciplinary structure provides nine flexible classrooms, 32 student team rooms, 75 faculty offices, conference rooms, and specialized labs for data visualization and analysis. A multilevel commons area offers a range of settings for formal and informal exchange, with additional collaboration zones dispersed throughout the building.

Standing four stories high with a mechanical penthouse, the transformative project addresses the needs of commercial and government organizations for skilled employees with core competencies in data analytics and quantitative research. Kjellstrom + Lee Construction broke ground on the facility in March of 2021. The Data and Decision Sciences Building represents the first phase of the $250 million Global Business and Analytics Complex. Subsequent phases of development will create a new home for the Pamplin College of Business and two living-learning residential communities.
