Empire State Realty Trust achieved the WELL Health-Safety Rating for its greater New York commercial properties in September of 2022. Representing 10.1 million rentable square feet, the portfolio comprises 14 office complexes, including the Empire State Building, and six stand-alone retail venues.
Promoting confidence in the safe reoccupancy of facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic, the WELL Health-Safety Rating for Facility Operations and Management measures five categories:
- Cleaning and sanitization procedures
- Emergency preparedness programs
- Health service resources
- Air and water quality management
- Stakeholder engagement and communications
Empire State Realty Trust's commercial real estate portfolio is the first in the United States to achieve the rating. RMZ Corporation, a leading investor, developer, and manager of real assets in India, was awarded the Well Health-Safety Rating for 41 properties in August of 2020.
Created by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), the WELL Health-Safety Rating is informed by guidance developed by the World Health Organization, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ASHRAE, and ASTM International, as well as leveraging insights from IWBI's Task Force on COVID-19.
