Kenyon College broke ground in July of 2019 on the West Quad complex in Gambier, Ohio. Designed by GUND Partnership, the project includes construction of Kenyon Commons, a collaborative library and learning facility that will feature two sandbox spaces for the exploration of innovative technologies and teaching methods. Funded in part by a $75 million donation, the building will also house the Office of Institutional Research and student service offices including academic advising, career development, accessibility, and the university registrar. The second structure, an interdisciplinary academic facility, will provide open and interconnected spaces for the social sciences including flexible classrooms, collaborative workspaces, a 300-seat auditorium, and an anthropology lab. The third building will create a consolidated home for the offices of admissions, student recruitment, and financial aid, as well as offering multipurpose rooms for campus events. LEED Gold sustainable design certification will be sought for all three facilities, which are slated for completion in 2021.
