The U.S. Air Force broke ground in June of 2019 on the $12.8 million Space Control Laboratory at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. The 26,000-sf facility will enable the Air Force Research Laboratory to consolidate operations currently sited in six disparate locations at the site. Enhancing the nation's defense and offense capabilities through the creation of leading-edge satellite technologies, the project will support the development of strategies for space situational awareness, command and control of space systems, and the survivability of space assets. The facility will include a 5,000-sf high bay lab and over 5,000 sf of secure research, office, and meeting space. The general contractor for the project is KL House Construction Company. Completion is expected in December of 2020.
