Red River College began construction in July of 2018 on the CAD$95 million Innovation Centre in Winnipeg. Located on the Exchange District campus, the 100,000-sf facility incorporates a repurposed heritage building and new construction to create a dynamic crossroads with advanced facilities for applied research, entrepreneurship. and commercialization. Designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects and Number TEN Architectural Group, the project will feature integrated spaces for industry collaboration and business incubation including the Sandbox for pitch sessions and an interaction atrium called the Agora. Targeting net-zero energy consumption, the high-performance building features a skin comprised of photovoltaic glass panels that changes color in response to weather conditions. The fast-track project is slated for completion in 2020.
