Yale University Breaks Ground on Science Building

Yale University broke ground in February of 2017 on the 280,300-sf Yale Science Building in New Haven, Conn. Designed by by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, the seven-level teaching and research facility will feature specialized laboratories, underground core labs, classrooms, offices, a 500-seat lecture hall, and a shared commons area. The Yale Science Building will house the entire Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology Department and part of the Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry Department, as well as accommodating faculty from physics and chemistry. A small greenhouse and a mechanical penthouse will be located on the roof. Stantec is the architect of record, laboratory planner, and engineer of record for the facility, which will replace the J.W. Gibbs Laboratory. LEED Gold sustainable design certification will be sought for the project. Completion is expected by early 2020.
