University of Anchorage Constructs Engineering & Industry Building

Published 2/3/2014

The University of Alaska Anchorage is building the $123 million Engineering & Industry Building. Providing classrooms and laboratories for the College of Engineering, the facility will support instruction in eleven disciplines including mechanical, electrical, civil, arctic, and computer systems engineering. The 80,000-sf building will feature computer-aided-design (CAD) labs and a prototyping lab with 3D printers. Designed Livingston Slone to put engineering on display, the project will include selectively exposed building systems to create a living laboratory. The building will include a reinforced floor with a 10-ton crane to move large equipment as part of structural testing. Occupancy is expected in August of 2015.
