The University of Edinburgh will break ground in February of 2015 on a $50 million expansion of its Easter Bush campus. Designed by Atkins Global, the project is part of the University's master plan to create the European Centre of Excellence in Animal Sciences and Food Security and comprises an innovation center, a campus hub, and a multistory atrium. The expansion will house the Centre of Comparative Pathology, the International Centre for Livestock Improvement, and the Midlothian Science Centre, as well as providing specialized research facilities, teaching labs, offices, exhibition space, and an animal bioscience business incubator. The general contractor for the project is Barr Construction. Completion is expected in 2016. The $20 million Energy Centre will also be constructed to meet the power requirements of the Easter Bush campus and the Advanced Computing Facility.
