St. Michael's Hospital Completes Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute

St. Michael's Hospital celebrated completion of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute in May of 2011 in Toronto. Designed by Diamond+Schmitt Architects, the $100 million translational research facility houses the Keenan Research Centre with three floors of open wet labs and two floors of dry labs. The nine-story building also includes the Li Ka Shing International Healthcare Education Centre and an auditorium. The Institute was built by Eastern Construction Co. and is connected to St. Michael's Hospital by a pedestrian bridge. The sustainably designed facility features solar shading, an energy recovery system, light sensors, and reflective roofing.
