The University of Virginia dedicated the $75 million Physical and Life Sciences Research Building in October of 2011 in Charlottesville. Designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, the five-story, 100,000-sf facility provides flexible research laboratories for 25 faculty members and their teams. The basement houses low-vibration space for advanced instrumentation. Construction manager W.M. Jordan Company of Richmond delivered the project in 39 months. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility, which features daylight harvesting, motion sensors, and an energy recovery system.
