Amherst College is planning to construct a new science building. The sustainably designed facility will support teaching and research in the life and physical sciences. A central atrium will promote interaction as well as offering abundant natural light. The building will house classrooms, labs, lecture halls, faculty offices, and a science library. The design team for the four-story, 220,000-sf project includes Payette Associates of Boston and German firm Behnisch Architekten. The construction manager is Whiting Turner. Completion is expected in 2017.
