Published 9/21/2010

Iowa State University dedicated the $32 million Biorenewables Research Laboratory in Ames in September of 2010. Designed to promote interaction and collaboration, the interdisciplinary research facility houses labs and offices for the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Biorenewable Chemicals, the Bioeconomy Institute, and the Biobased Industry Center. RFD (Research Facilities Design) was the laboratory design consultant for the project. The building has attained LEED Gold sustainable design certification and will support the College of Engineering’s research in fuel production, agriculture, and industrial chemicals. The project represents completion of phase one of the $107.1 million Biorenewables Complex. The second phase includes construction of two buildings to house the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering.
