WHOI Breaks Ground on Laboratory for Ocean Sensors and Observing Systems

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) broke ground in August of 2010 on the Laboratory for Ocean Sensors and Observing Systems. The 27,000-sf project is supported by $8.1 million in federal stimulus funding and will house lab and office space for the National Science Foundation’s Ocean Observatories Initiative, the Martha’s Vineyard Coastal Observatory, the WHOI Ocean Bottom Seismometer Instrument Pool, and the Environmental Sample Processor Lab. Construction will begin on the facility in March of 2011 with occupancy expected in June of 2011. The project team includes design architect Ellenzweig and general contractor Columbia Construction Company.
