The National Institutes of Health National Center for Research Resources announced $1 billion in funding in May of 2010 for the construction and renovation of research facilities. A total of 146 grants were awarded to institutions in 44 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
