WASHINGTON, D.C.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology awarded a total of $50 million in funding in October of 2010 to support the construction of scientific research facilities. The grants include:
- $13.1 million to Rochester Institute of Technology in New York for the Golisano Institute for Sustainability Research Building. Ground will be broken on the facility in spring of 2011.
- $12.2 million to the University of Nevada, Reno for an expansion of the Center for Civil Engineering Earthquake Research.
- $9.5 million to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to construct the Center of Excellence in Nano Mechanical Science & Engineering (NAMSE).
- $9.1 million to Bigelow Laboratory to build the Center for Ocean Health in West Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
- $6 million to the University of California, Los Angeles to construct the Western Institute of Nanotechnology on Green Engineering and Metrology (WIN GEM).
