University of Nebraska-Lincoln Plans Nanoscience Metrology Facility

Published 1/16/2010

The University of Nebraska – Lincoln will begin construction in 2010 on the $13.8 million Nanoscience Metrology Facility. Slated for completion in summer of 2011, the project was awarded $6.9 million in stimulus funding by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in January of 2010. The 32,000-sf facility will feature a temperature-stabilized, low-vibration environment with low electromagnetic fields. The NMF will include a nanofabrication cleanroom, a materials preparation facility, and laboratories for nanofiber characterization, manufacturing metrology, and nanophotonics. The facility will also house electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, X-ray materials characterization, mechanical characterization, and crystallography labs. A minimum of LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.
