NASA Renovates Langley Research Center

Published 7/18/2009

NASA broke ground on a $23 million office building in Hampton, Va., in July of 2009. The 72,000-sf Building 1 will be constructed to attain LEED Gold sustainable design certification. The project is part of a $200 million renovation and expansion of Langley Research Center to support aeronautics research with improved facilities and infrastructure. Designed to maximize research performance and reduce operations and maintenance costs, the “New Town” project at Langley Research Center includes construction of three laboratories, two office buildings, and a joint-use facility. Two existing buildings will be renovated and ten structures will be demolished.
