Canada Allocates $2 Billion for University Facilities

The Canadian government allocated up to $2 billion in its 2009 budget to repair, retrofit, and expand facilities at post-secondary institutions. The funding represents a strategic investment in knowledge infrastructure. Canada’s 2009 budget also includes:•    $750 million for leading-edge research infrastructure through the Canada Foundation for Innovation.•    $50 million to the Institute for Quantum Computing in Waterloo to build a new world-class research facility.•    $87 million over the next two years to maintain or upgrade key Arctic research facilities. •    $250 million over two years to address deferred maintenance at federal laboratories.For more information, explore Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
