The University of Washington broke ground on a $78 million molecular engineering building in Seattle in October of 2009. Designed by Zimmer Gunsul Frasca with Research Facilities Design (RFD) as lab design consultant, the 90,000-sf building will feature a low-vibration basement research facility, flexible laboratories, and classrooms. The building will be constructed to attain a minimum of LEED Silver sustainable design certification. The general contractor for the project is Hoffman Construction Company of Seattle. Occupancy is expected in 2012.
