California Institute for Regenerative Medicine Funds Stem Cell Facilities

The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) awarded $267 million for the construction of 12 stem cell research facilities on May 7, 2008. Supported by institutional and philanthropic financing, a total of $832 million in stem cell research facilities will be constructed in California. The CIRM funding includes:•    $43 million to the San Diego Consortium for Regenerative Medicine•    $34.8 million to Stanford University’s Institute for Stem Cell Biology•    $34.8 million to UC San Francisco’s Institute for Regenerative Medicine•    $29 million to the University of Southern California’s Broad Institute for Integrative Biology and Stem Cell Research•    $27.2 million to UC Irvine•    $20.5 million to The Buck Institute for Age Research •    $20.2 million to UC Berkeley’s Li Ka Shing Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences•    $20.1 million to UC Davis’s Sacramento medical campus renovation •    $19.8 million to UCLA’s Broad Stem Cell Research Center•    $7.5 million to UC Merced’s Atwater campus foundry renovation•    $7.2 million to UC Santa Cruz•    $3.2 million to UC Santa Barbara
