Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) is engaged in an expansion of its diagnostic laboratories in Saskatoon. The facility will house postmortem rooms and laboratories for animal disease diagnosis and will be constructed to national biosafety standards. The project began construction in fall of 2006 and is expected to reach completion in 2008. The existing diagnostic laboratory will be renovated once the expansion is complete. The project is part of a major WCVM construction initiative. Completed projects include a $57 million clinical addition to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, completed in July 2007; a 1,468-sm research laboratory wing featuring the Westgen Research Suite for the study of an animal reproduction, completed in April 2007; and a large animal chute system, completed in January 2007. Renovations to areas in the existing hospital will continue into early 2008. The project manager for WCVM’s expansion plan is UMA Engineering Ltd.
