SwRI Constructs Automotive Research Facility

Published 2/13/2003

The Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) is constructing the 93,000-sf Automotive Research Building at SwRI's San Antonio campus. Housing SwRI's 600-employee Automotive Products and Emissions Research Division, the facility will feature state-of-the-art facilities for the division's fleet and field evaluations using full-scale vehicles. The building, serving multiple uses, will facilitate the development and evaluation of energy and transportation industry products and will consolidate the technical, support and engineering staff of one of the division's three departments, the Fuels and Lubricants Research Department. Cleveland-based The Austin Co. provided architectural, engineering and general contracting work for the project.

Last year, SwRI completed a 40,000-sf expansion of the division's Emissions Research Building, bringing the facility to an approximate total of 85,000 sf.
