Miami University opened the $58 million Richard M. McVey Data Science Building in March of 2024 in Oxford, Ohio. Designed by BHDP Architecture and CannonDesign, the 92,000-sf facility provides collaborative environments for learning, making, and discovery. The transdisciplinary structure collocates the departments of Statistics, Computer Science and Software Engineering, and Emerging Technology in Business and Design with the Lily Leadership Institute, the Armstrong Institute for Emerging Technology, and the Center for Analytics and Data Science.
A multipurpose atrium fosters knowledge exchange between occupants while offering flexible gathering areas for presentations and events. Featuring specialized venues for working with augmented and virtual reality technologies, the three-story building also includes a robotics lab, a cybersecurity lab, 14 classrooms, 12 seminar rooms, and 88 offices.
Whiting-Turner was the design-build contractor for the development with Thomas J. Dyer Company as mechanical and plumbing contractor. Ground was broken on the project in October of 2021.
