Higher education is in the midst of a renaissance in terms of how students live and learn on campus. Even as new models have emerged around dynamic learning, living and learning communities, and an enriched student environment, space design has not kept pace. In this presentation, Paula Short explores the process to create new, relevant spaces to support forward-facing higher education models and how to redesign existing spaces with the same agility. She illustrates frameworks for productive collaboration between facilities managers, student life and academic affairs, including the development of design principles, engaging stakeholders across the campus, and fusing academic planning with space/facilities planning and design.
