Infineon Technologies, a division of the German company, Siemens A.G., opened a 11,000-sf design center in Research Triangle Park, N.C., in April. In the next two years, the semiconductor company plans to add a 5,000-sf development center to accommodate a production test lab as well as double its staff.
Georgia Institute of Technology will have a new advanced computing and information technology complex thanks to a $15 million gift from a former student at the institution.
EpicEdge Inc. will relocate its executive staff from Houston to a $500 million headquarters in Austin. By the end of 2000, the company expects to employ more than 100 people at the new location. EpicEdge specializes in high tech systems integration and Web consulting.
Summit Technologies plans to start construction in August 2000 on a $3 million, 97,000-sf service center complex in North Austin. Coordinator for the three-building project is Development 2000. Summit Technologies produces ophthalmic laser systems.
Cisco Systems, based in San Jose, Calif., recently began construction at its nine-building campus on three 200,000-sf buildings: buildings 10, 11, and 12. These buildings were designed by O’Brien/Atkins Associates of Durham, N.C. Bovis/Lend Lease, based in Raleigh, N.C., is the general contractor. When the buildings are completed in 2001, construction will begin on three more buildings—buildings 13, 14, and 15—which will total 500,000 sf. Cisco currently houses 3,000 employees at the site. The additional six buildings will accommodate 3,500 employees.
Cisco Systems Inc. is in the process of obtaining zoning for a planned 2.3 million-sf office and R&D facility on 153 acres in the Alviso community of North San Jose. About 10 buildings are planned, with construction occuring in two phases: 1.6 million sf in phase one, and 600,000 sf in phase two.
Groundbreaking, contingent upon approval by the San Jose City Council, could begin in late spring or early summer 2000, with occupancy 16 months later. Construction costs are estimated at $575 million.
Cisco Systems Inc. is planning a $1 billion R&D complex at the Coyote Valley Research Park. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2000 on the 6.6 million-sf project, with completion anticipated in 2002. DivcoWest Properties Inc. of San Jose and Gibson Speno Co. are joint developers of the 365-acre campus.
Cisco is currently building a $100 million, 1.1 million-sf project--Site 5--in nearby Milpitas. September 2000 is the scheduled completion date for the project, which was designed and built by San Jose's DevCon Construction Inc.
