University of Massachusetts Medical School Constructs New Education and Research Building
The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School is constructing the $325 million New Education and Research Building in Worcester. Designed by ZGF Architects and ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge, the 350,000-sf facility will house the departments of neurology and neurobiology, a gene therapy center, and programs in animal research, molecular medicine, and human genetics and evolutionary biology.
BeiGene Plans Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Research Center
BeiGene is planning to break ground in 2022 on a pharmaceutical manufacturing and research center in Hopewell, N.J. Located on the Princeton West Innovation Campus, the integrated complex will provide 400,000 sf of dedicated space for commercial-stage production of innovative cancer therapies. Offering up to 16,000 liters of biologics capacity, the facility will also include clinical R&D labs and collaborative office environments. IPS is the architect and engineer for the project, which will be built by DPR Construction.
University of California, San Diego Opens Design and Innovation Building
The University of California, San Diego opened the $67 million Design and Innovation Building in La Jolla in November of 2021. The four-story, 74,000-sf facility is a dynamic hub for experiential learning and discovery that collocates entrepreneurial activities previously dispersed across campus. Sited adjacent to a new light rail station and an outdoor amphitheater, the multidisciplinary structure includes four distinct spaces.
Rocky Mountain Laboratories Begins Construction on Animal Research Vivarium
Rocky Mountain Laboratories began construction in December of 2021 on a $93 million animal research vivarium in Hamilton, Mont. Accelerating the detection and mitigation of emerging infectious diseases, the 120,000-sf structure will provide climate-controlled environments for rodents, ticks, bats, and other species. The technology-rich building will also house an analytical lab and collaborative workspaces for researchers and staff.
The Ohio State University Breaks Ground on Energy Advancement and Innovation Center
The Ohio State University broke ground in November of 2021 on the $48.4 million Energy Advancement and Innovation Center in Columbus. Designed by Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects and Moody Nolan, the 66,000-sf facility will enable faculty members, students, entrepreneurs, and industry affiliates to pioneer new renewable energy technologies, smart energy systems, and green mobility solutions.
