University of Kentucky Dedicates College of Pharmacy
The University of Kentucky dedicated the 286,000-sf College of Pharmacy in Lexington in January of 2010. Designed by EOP Architects in association with Ellenzweig, the six-story project features lecture halls, classrooms, offices, teaching and research labs, and a five-story atrium. Construction began on the $134 million facility in fall of 2007. The general contractor for the project was Messer Construction.
Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism Releases Biosecurity Evaluation
The Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism released an evaluation of the United States’ biosecurity measures in January of 2010. The report asserts that the nation is ill-prepared for a biological attack and recommends a restructuring of biothreat response protocols and oversight. State of Maryland Plans Public Health Laboratory
The State of Maryland will break ground by year-end 2010 on the 200,000-sf Public Health Laboratory in East Baltimore. The $180 million facility will house 250 employees and is slated for completion in late 2013. The project will be sited on two acres in the Science + Technology Park at Hopkins and will house 41 high-level biocontainment laboratories.
Parkland Memorial Hospital Plans Replacement Facility
Parkland Memorial Hospital will begin construction in November of 2010 on a $1.27 billion replacement facility in Dallas. The 1.9 million-sf project is being designed by HDR of Omaha and Corgan Associates of Dallas. The construction management team includes Balfour Beatty Construction, Austin Commercial, H.J. Russell & Co., Azteca Enterprises, and CH2M Hill Enterprise Management Solutions.
Garvan St. Vincent's Cancer Centre Builds Sydney Facility
Construction will begin in February of 2010 on the $110 million Garvan St Vincent's Cancer Centre in Sydney. Providing advanced cancer research and treatment facilities, the nine-story building is slated for completion in mid-2012.
